How do you play an escape room virtually?
Escape rooms have become one of the most popular forms of entertainment, but because they are traditionally done in person, you likely haven’t thought of using an escape room as a bonding exercise for remote employees. That’s where we come in. Our virtual escape rooms offer all the fun, challenge, and excitement of traditional ones, but everything can be done online.
Here’s how it works: your team members log in to the game. From there, one of our game masters walks them through the scenario and provides them the tools they need to solve puzzles, work out clues, and escape. Along the way, your team learns how to work together in a collaborative environment, developing the skills they need to problem solve as a team in the real world. If you’re looking for a way of bringing your work-from-home team members together, there’s nothing quite like a virtual escape room for team building.
How do I host a virtual escape room?
When you book your event with BreakoutIQ, hosting a virtual escape room for your team is simple because we handle everything. All you have to do is contact us to arrange the online escape room for your team and make certain everyone knows when the event is and how to join.
Looking to plan a team building activity for big teams, or multiple groups? Our online escape rooms are ideal for large groups, so whether your group is 20, 100, or 600, our virtual escape room will provide a great experience for everyone. Since we handle everything, everyone at your company can participate, even you! Upon booking, you’ll receive a video conference link to share with your colleagues, along with simple sign on instructions and the game theme. There’s nothing else you need to do, so you can sit back, relax, and join in the fun on event day!
Are escape rooms good for team building?
Virtual escape rooms can be an ideal event for team building, especially since your team can participate no matter where they’re located, so no more worrying about coordinating those carpool groups. There’s also no need to worry about the physical rooms being booked up. You can check our real time availability in the “Book Now” widget. If your desired time isn’t available, please schedule time with our event coordinators and we’ll see what we can do
Once you complete your booking above, you’ll automatically receive a confirmation with all of the details that you need for the event! We’ll provide a unique Zoom meeting room link, as well as instructions for you to share with your colleagues on how to setup Zoom
We have a strong preference for Zoom because its breakout room function enables the smoothest experience. When necessary, we’ve hosted events on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Cisco WebEx for smaller groups, but they tend to have a slightly more clunky experience
Yes! We’ve made some minor adjustments to our remote team activities in order to seamlessly accommodate a variety of hybrid team setups. And we’ve been careful to ensure that participants have the same quality experience, regardless of where they’re logging in from.

+ PREPARING FOR THE EVENT
2 simple steps! Share this information from your confirmation:
1) The unique Zoom meeting link
2) Instructions on how to download Zoom desktop with your team to make sure they’re properly set up to join the event
We also recommend having something to take notes with – could be a pen and paper, a Google or Word doc, or whatever works for you
We handle the rest!
We do not handle event registrations at this time. We found that event registration was best handled by team and event organizers who have full context for the attendees. We’re happy to suggest ways to manage this process if helpful
The default is for us to randomize teams, which is our recommended option to maintain flexibility since not everyone always shows up, and to mix up groups.
We understand some event contexts require pre-selected teams, and we can accommodate that as well. We’ll reach out with a template for you to drop teams into, and we’ll make sure they’re reflected during the event. Teams are generally 4 – 7 people
+ ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY DETAILS
Zoom has the ability to create private rooms within a larger group, and our host can move you in and out of those rooms on command. So when the game begins, you’ll be placed in a private room with just your team of 4-6 people, and brought back to the larger group when the game ends.
The game has a support chat function where, at any point, any player can message our hosts and ask for help. Our hosts will also be monitoring everyone’s progress and will at times proactively join teams in their breakout room to provide assistance and keep teams on track.
Our host takes care of that for you! You’ll always be in the right place at the right time
There is always a winner. The team that finishes all the puzzles first in the allotted time is the winner. If none of the teams finish, the team that advances the furthest in the least amount of time wins.

Whether you want to host a fun group activity, or focus more on remote team building, this game has what you’re looking. Our facilitators are also trained to read the room and work with you to match the tone and experience you’re looking for.
Whether you’re an escape room enthusiast or it’s your first time playing an escape room, you will have fun working with your teammates to decipher each puzzle, look for clues and connect the dots. Most of the people who play our game are first timers and they always have a blast!
Our game content has been curated with corporate audiences in mind and is appropriate for corporate groups and settings. Our expert event facilitators have hosted many events for many different teams, and the activity itself features no mature content.
The content of the game doesn’t change. It’s the same experience every time.
