Virtual Escape Rooms are Great for Remote Teams

More and more teams are going remote, which has a number of great advantages. However, there are some downsides, too. One of the biggest issues is that it’s hard to build team unity or have any sort of team building exercise because everyone is in a different location. Fortunately, there are solutions to this issue, including the virtual escape room.

Why Virtual Escape Rooms are Great for Remote Teams

These virtual escape puzzles bring your employees together in a collaborative space to work through challenges. They get to know each other in a more relaxed environment, and it helps people learn about others’ strengths and weaknesses. It’s a great way for remote employees to get to spend time together without focusing on work. At the same time, they will learn how to solve challenges by working as a team by splitting up tasks, combining their knowledge, and sharing ideas.

What Is a Virtual Escape Room?

A virtual escape room is very similar to a physical escape room, except everything is done online. Your employees will be grouped into teams and must find clues, solve puzzles, and work out how to get out of the room before the other teams and before time runs out. In person, these challenges might take the form of finding keys or searching through various drawers. In a virtual escape room, that’s not possible, but we have created unique puzzles that are just as engaging and fun.

How Do Virtual Escape Rooms Work?

In a virtual escape room, your team has access to documents, videos, riddles, and more. Because it’s all online, it’s easy to open a video or link to another website. Teams will need to search watch and listen to these videos closely or carefully comb through a website’s content for answers to the puzzles given.

Going to Google to search for clues is not just an acceptable strategy, it’s also encouraged in some cases. In some ways, this makes a virtual escape game even more lifelike than in-person games because online searches are a resource that everyone has access to. In addition to team building, this helps show employees how to compose a search to find the exact answers they want.

After completing all of the challenges, the escape room “exit” will open and the team will receive a congratulations message. They can then continue to chat and get to know each other while they wait for the other teams to finish.

How Do You Host a Virtual Escape Room?

If you want to host a virtual escape room, all you need to do is reach out to BreakoutIQ. We have all of the tools already in place to host one of these fun games. Our system allows up to 600 people to join one escape room session. We will split them up into smaller teams of four or five people for the actual game.

Simply book your event using our online form, fill out the requested details and logistical information, and you’re all set! You’ll then receive a unique meeting link for your virtual escape room event that you can share with all of your attendees, and there’s nothing else you’ll need to do to prepare. Once everyone is online, our team will create the groups and place each one in its own breakout room. We also provide hints when a team asks and we will keep track of the time it takes each team to finish. You can read more details on how a virtual escape room works with BreakIQ.
